Tonn Mór

Celebrating hell people in Irish waters!. Entrants are to submit their best waves in three categories: Tonn Mór (biggest wave); Ride of the Year; Wipeout of the Year, surfed between March 2019 - March (15th) 2020.

We are proud to invite entries from both surfers and body boarders for this competition. We are also inviting both paddle and tow waves. There are no restrictions to the amount of times a person enters but it will be at the discretion of Doolin Surfest and the competitions director whether or not they are published.

Entries will be examined and judged by a panel of experts. The final five waves in each category will be shown on the night and the winner will be announced.

Entries will only be accepted on within 4 weeks of the wave being surfed. We advice that you send your entry as fast as possible after the wave has being surfed. Waves submitted after 4 weeks of occurring will not be accepted to any of the Tonn Mór categories. Waves surfed between March 2019 and September 2019 can be submitted up till the end of September 30th 2019.

Tonn Mór Categories:

 1.Tonn Mór -

Prize - TBC

This award is for the biggest wave ridden. The judges will use techniques which estimate the height of the wave relative to the known height of the surfer while factoring in the distortion caused by the videos angle. The judges are urged to consider sustained performance throughout the entirety of a ride, including the overall quality of manoeuvres or critical positions achieved, and to evaluate the skill of the surfer in a challenging situation above the good fortune presented purely by the unique shape of a particular wave.

2. Ride of the Year -

Prize - TBC

This category will be judged on the size, heaviness, difficulty of the ride. This must be a successful ride of a wave from start to finish. It is not limited tow assist or paddle. Surfer/bodyboarder must complete the wave successfully- This is exiting the barrel/wave in full control.

3.Wipe Out of the Year -

Prize - TBC

Very self explanatory...whatever makes our panel go ooooooh! Size, impact, hold down...they'll look at all the nitty grittys.
